Engaged couples invited to rehearse big day at Devon's Bovey Castle

Married couple at Devon's Bovey Castle

Engaged couples are being invited to rehearse their own big day at a five-star Devon resort. Bovey Castle located in North Bovey is hosting Cocktails at the castle: The Alternative Wedding Showcase on 21st September between 6 pm and 7.30 pm.

The free one-night event is being held in response to rising demand for interactive experiences and personal storytelling during couples' wedding days. Guests will be greeted on arrival with complimentary cocktails and canapes before touring three of the property's indoor wedding ceremony spaces – including the 120-capacity Cathedral Room which played host to British Olympian Tom Daley's wedding to Dustin Lance Black in 2017.

The others include the 50-capacity Adam Room – offering the flexibility to position registrars in front of either the grand window or the ornate fireplace – as well as The Library Room which is ideal for intimate occasions of up to 15 people.

The Dartmoor Suite – which can accommodate parties for up to 100 guests for evening entertainment – will also be open to view, with Bovey Castle's wedding experts on hand to offer advice to those looking to tie the knot.

Sophie Thomas, events and reservations manager at Bovey Castle, said: "What makes Bovey Castle so special is the sheer variety of ways we can help to bring couples' personalities to life during their wedding day – and this event is designed to give couples a taste of this with the help of our wedding experts."

Sophie adds, "Some couples choose the romance of an outdoor summer house ceremony surrounded by Dartmoor's natural beauty, while others might weave in a round of golf with their guests as part of the celebrations. Guests can also have rings delivered by Grace, our resident Falconer's barn owl, which is a unique touch and completely fitting for our 1907 building. Other couples often include golf or clay pigeon shooting throughout the day, and we have had couples go onto the moors for a personalised wedding shoot, getting a real Dartmoor experience with a breathtaking backdrop."

Sophie explains, "Inside the castle, we can host everything from grand gatherings in our historic rooms to the most intimate of ceremonies tucked away in a private space. It's that flexibility, paired with the backdrop of a luxury castle, that makes weddings here truly unforgettable."

Set within 275 acres of beautiful countryside in Dartmoor National Park, Bovey Castle is a 5 Red Star hotel owned by luxury hotel group The Eden Hotel Collection, offering 60 bedrooms throughout the historic manor, and 22 self-catering country lodges. Guests are advised to pre-book their space at Cocktails at the castle: an alternative wedding showcase by calling Bovey Castle on 01647 445007.
