Honeymooners exploring Watergate Bay can enjoy live music experience

Summer cinema experience at Watergate Bay, Cornwall

Couples enjoying a honeymoon staycation this summer in Cornwall can enjoy a live show with globally famous folk band the Fisherman's Friends on Sunday 6th September who are set to close the Wavelength summer cinema experience atop Watergate Bay.

The cinematic summer schedule which was launched on July 24th by the team behind Europe's original surf publication, Wavelength, has featured some of cinema's best movies, both contemporary and those that have stood the test of time in the most inspirational setting overlooking the sea near Newquay. The original 'buoy band', the Fisherman's Friends, has spectacularly performed at the summer sessions for three sell-out consecutive Sundays. Amongst those who have enjoyed the sessions is BBC Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley who described the show as "a gorgeous night with the backdrop of a stunning sunset".

Sunday 6th September will be the band's only remaining 2020 performance and they will be singing live on stage for one hour before the 2019 film screening commences to the backdrop of Watergate Bay, their folk repertoire coming through car stereos via a special frequency. on Saturday, 5th September, outdoor cinemagoers can enjoy Steven Spielberg's American thriller classic, and fittingly the first major motion picture to be shot on the ocean, Jaws in its 45th year. This bank holiday Friday 28th August will see the 1991 American action-crime film Point Break aired, starring Patrick Swayze, Keanu Reeves, Lori Petty and Gary Busey. Taking cinemagoers back to 1985, Saturday 29th August will show Back to the Future and on Sunday 30th August, locals and honeymooners alike can enjoy one of the best films ever made, Grease, following the trials and tribulations of Danny and Sandy, head-bopping to the catchy soundtrack and reciting those famous quotes.

With space for over 200 cars and vans, the drive-in cinema series concept is an extension of Wavelength's highly popular 'Cinema Club' which has seen a series of over 25 sold-out surf cinema events across London and the UK over the last 18 months. Al fresco movie lovers can make either individual or 'bubbled car' bookings from now via https://wavelengthmag.com/drive-in-cinema

There are a host of on-site food and drink options including street food from WAX Watergate Bay, a popcorn stand and craft beer bars. Safety-led additions such as hand sanitisers, facemasks, queuing processes and signage are included across the event site and operational running of the sessions.

Wavelength Director, Guy Hayler, says, "We are so delighted with how the sessions are running this summer at the picturesque Trebelsue Farm. There was a strong and immediate demand for tickets given that so many other events have been cancelled or postponed this year. It is fantastic to offer a safe and thoroughly enjoyable outdoor activity for people to enjoy. There are still two weekends remaining with some epic classics of different genres including some great timeless family flicks so we would strongly encourage you to book tickets now not to miss out. We have been particularly proud to be able to offer guests the only chance this summer to see the Fisherman's Friends perform live on a Cornish clifftop. In fact, it has gone down so well that we have booked them for one exclusive final bonus session. It's an experience not to be missed!"

Tickets for the remaining drive-in events are available at a cost of either £5 per person or £25 per car or van and driver with a maximum of five people per vehicle – these can be purchased from the Wavelength website. However, tickets for the Fisherman's Friends' viewing (Sunday September 6th) are £30 per car and £10 per passenger. The Wavelength Media team is already in talks about next year's sessions.
