The Garden Café Newquay launches sunflower growing competition with seed giveaway

The Garden Café Newquay, a beloved local hotspot renowned for its dedication to all things green, is thrilled to announce the launch of its inaugural Sunflower Growing Competition 'Reach for the Sun'.

As part of its ongoing commitment to fostering community engagement and celebrating nature, The Garden Cafe will be distributing free sunflower seeds to eager participants with every purchase, inviting them to cultivate their very own vibrant blooms. A prize of a special treat at the cafe for the most impressive sunflower posted on their social media will be given over the summer.

With spring in full swing but desperately lacking some sunshine, now is the perfect time to embrace the joys of gardening, unleash creativity and reach for the sun. Whether you're a seasoned green thumb or a novice enthusiast, everyone is encouraged to join in the fun. Participants can collect their complimentary sunflower seeds now during open hours from The Garden Café in Trenance Gardens Newquay with the competition running through into summer. The café will be looking in mid-summer to find a winner or winners chosen from all the photos posted to its social media so there is plenty of time to cultivate a winning bloom.

"We're excited to see our community come together and showcase their green-fingered talents," said Karen Hoyle, owner of The Garden Cafe. "Sunflowers are not only stunning to behold but also symbolise vitality and positivity, which is something we could all use a little more of right now. Sunflowers are also part of the RHS plants for pollinators campaign and will help the bee population thrive as well."

To grow the seeds the café advises finding a small pot or even a coffee cup or mug and placing the seeds in some compost on a windowsill to start the growing process. Once hardy enough towards the end of May the plant can be potted up in a border or pot outside.
