The Falmouth Cringe Festival begins in Falmouth today and excitement is building for the arrival of well-known comedians and actors, such as Tim Key and Shappi Khorsandi. Tim Key (Alan Partridge, The Witchfinder) will be playing to a sold-out crowd at The Poly Theatre, in what will be his final performance of his wildly successful Mulberry tour.

Other shows in The Poly include BAFTA award-winning actor Spencer Jones who is bringing his absurdist WIP show down to Falmouth for one night only. Joining him in The Poly will be well-known comedian Josh Berry who rose to fame on BBC Radio 4 Extras Newsjack and Radio 4's Deadringers and French Tiktok star Tatty Mcleoud. Flying the flag for Cornish comedians, Tamsyn Kelly will perform her hit show 'Crying in TKMAXX' – a hilarious show about meeting her estranged father in the popular discount store.

The Falmouth Cringe heralds itself as a community-based festival, and true to its word has offered discount tickets to family shows (Shelf: The Kids Show, 1pm at The Cornish Bank) as well as curating a totally FREE park stage, giving families a chance to enjoy the shows without any extra cost.

Commenting, co-director, Franciska Earle said: "This year, thanks to the generosity of our amazing sponsors (The Chintz Bar, Portwrinkle Homes, Falmouth BID and Feast) we have been able to keep all our ticket prices affordable. Tickets range from £5-£15 and we have offered family discounts on those buying more then 1 ticket for family shows. We are also super excited to be able to curate a totally FREE stage, in Kimberley Park, where audiences can enjoy The Karnos Brass Band and Squashbox Theatre for no cost at all. Our priority with this festival is, and will always remain, being a community-led festival, aiming to give audiences the chance to enjoy a top class comedy festival without the high prices."

Richard Wilcox, executive director of Falmouth BID, a sponsor of The Falmouth Cringe under Falmouth Creates, said: "Falmouth has now become well known, locally, regionally and nationally as the port that always has something going on. The Falmouth Cringe Comedy Festival is a perfect example of the creative dynamism that's constantly on display, and the organisers' commitment to widening the appeal with a whole range of family-friendly options for 2023, alongside a set of impressive national headline acts, is just brilliant to see."
