New flapjack store in St Ives raises funds for the lifeboat station

life boat workers and flapjack shop owners standing outside new shop Here at County Wedding Magazines HQ we certainly all have a sweet tooth so a whole shop dedicated to flapjacks sounds like heaven to us! What's more, these delicious tray bakes also make great favours, big-day dessert table must-haves and wedding thank you gifts!

A new shop dedicated to flapjacks has opened in St Ives and its owners have chosen the St Ives Lifeboat Station as the recipient of its local fundraising. Flapjackery has launched on Fore St where customers can choose from a variety of mouth-watering, gluten free flapjacks as well as a host of other sweet treats.

If they choose a St Ives specific box of three or six flapjacks, 50p and £1.50 respectively will be donated to the RNLI as well as 20p for every customer who opts not to use a recyclable box. This is the fifth shop business partners Carol Myott and Sally Jenkin have opened, the third since 2021, with the flapjacks now available at the flagship store in Tavistock, as well as Minehead, Wells and Plymouth.

New flapjack store owners Sally and Carol holding flapjacks Carol said: "We're so excited about opening in St Ives which is such a busy town, and brimming with energy. We're also delighted to be supporting St Ives Lifeboat Station too. The coastline plays such an important role both for work and pleasure and the lifeboat crews do an important and courageous job helping to keep the seas a safer place."

Rob Cocking, St Ives Lifeboat Coxswain, said: "We are delighted that Flapjackery has selected St Ives RNLI as their chosen charity. Just as our RNLI lifeboat crews are made up of local people doing extraordinary things, so too are the businesses that give generously and enable us to continue to launch our lifesaving service. Welcome to St Ives Flapjackery, and thank you for your support of our service"

In 2021 Flapjackery raised a total of £2,224 in donations from people who went box-free, which equates to 11,124 boxes not going into landfill, and from buying shop-specific boxes. The money has been donated to Wells Cathedral, the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Group and the RNLI Minehead, with RNLI Plymouth and now RNLI St Ives included in its charitable donations for 2022.

Flapjackery was founded in 2015 out of Carol and Sally's love of home baking. They started baking in their respective kitchen, selling at their local country market in Tavistock, Devon, and the business quickly flourished. Now they employ more than 20 people, with Flapjackery attending all the major shows and events in the UK. There's also a successful online business and a sixth shop due to open in Bath next month.

Sally said: "It's incredible to think that flapjacks are so popular. We're particularly looking forward to opening in St Ives as we've had such a warm welcome, and we're looking forward to making lots of new friends in the town."
