Exeter Racecourse has launched a new Community Raceday on Friday 20th February and is inviting people across Devon to nominate a community hero who deserves recognition.
The initiative celebrates the people who make a real difference in their communities – from volunteers and carers to sports coaches, fundraisers and quiet grafters who go above and beyond.
Every nominee will receive a free ticket to Exeter Racecourse, and one overall winner will be treated to a Family Raceday experience for 12 people on Tuesday 7th April, including food and drinks. The winner will also be presented with a certificate on Community Raceday itself.
Nominations will be judged by Exeter Racecourse general manager Jack Parkinson, Chairman Duncan Sykes, and Wincanton Racecourse general manager Blaithin Murphy. To enter, simply explain in no more than 250 words why your friend or colleague deserves to be recognised. Entries should be emailed to lucy.johnson@thejockeyclub.co.uk by Monday 9th February.
Jack Parkinson said the initiative is a chance to shine a light on those who give their time, energy and kindness to others and to give them a proper day out in return. The raceday also features one of the highlights of the West Country racing calendar, the Devon National, which regularly attracts familiar staying chasers returning for another tough test.
To mark Community Raceday, there will also be indoor entertainment for children, who go free with the Martin Pipe Stand will be transformed into a games room, featuring a graffiti wall, football table and air hockey.
Community Raceday is about racing, Devon pride and giving something back. Exeter Racecourse is urging communities across the county to get involved, spread the word and help recognise someone who truly deserves it. Gates open at 12.45 pm with the first race at 2.15 pm. The last race is at 5.20 pm and a shuttle bus departs Exeter St Davids at 12.45 pm, returning from the racecourse at 5.50 pm.
