March/April 2024

With Easter almost upon us, it feels like it’s going to be an egg-cellent year! Not only can we look forward to this spring break (and all the tasty treats that it offers), but we also have the May bank holidays, too. Check out the Easter-themed bakes from Flapjackery on page nine, washed down with the latest launch from Padstow Gin!

If you’re planning a wedding in a hotel, turn to page 15 for some chic suggestions in both regions and for those of you wanting a beach celebration, our Cornish styled shoot on page 51 will inspire. Booking a European honeymoon? Greece is the word! Read my review of the Parga Beach Resort on page 86.

The Horn of Plenty

This charming country house hotel is perfect for couples looking for a unique, sophisticated yet relaxed wedding venue showcasing amazing far-flung views and fabulous food. The four-star country house hotel is filled with elegance and charm, set in five acres of secluded colourful gardens. With ample outdoor seating in the pretty gardens and on the decked terrace, the hotel is surrounded by countryside on the Cornwall and Devon border, overlooking the historic Tamar Valley whilst still having the benefit of easy access from the market town of Tavistock.

The Georgian style of the main building is celebrated with an interior rich in graceful period features, mixed with a contemporary influence and original artwork. The main restaurant features large picture windows to make the most of the light and the incredible view.

The generous gardens are a photographer’s dream. The main lawn benefits from a stunning backdrop of the Tamar Valley and a breathtaking vista towards the moor. The acres of well-tended gardens include lawns, terraces, a delightful fountain, ponds, a paddock, a walled garden and rustic outbuildings that are great for photos, playing lawn games or simply sitting and admiring the glorious sunset.

Open-air outdoor ceremonies for up to 90 guests are held on the main lawn with its panoramic countryside view and beautiful greenery. Outdoor micro-wedding ceremonies for up to 12 guests can be held on one of three large balconies.

The main ceremony room can accommodate up to 80 loved ones. It’s full of character with two statement chandeliers, a bay window and an elegant fireplace. Smaller ceremonies of up to 15 guests can be held either in the Drawing Room or, for couples wanting a less formal set up, they can choose the upstairs Library.

Ceremonies can take place in a choice of four rooms. The maximum capacity for a ceremony is 80 guests while the maximum seated for a wedding breakfast is 90 people and the maximum capacity for loved ones attending the evening reception is 120.

Reception drinks and canapés are served outside either on the main lawn or around the fountain. During the cooler months, the entire main house is available for the reception with the wedding breakfast held in the conservatory restaurant with its sliding doors on to an ample terrace.

The team offer a bespoke menu where the couple get to meet the chef and design their wedding breakfast menu followed by a free tasting session. Previous wedding guests regularly comment that it’s the best wedding breakfast they’ve ever tasted! The team love nothing more than welcoming couples back on their anniversary with a complimentary room upgrade and a bottle of celebratory fizz. Selected rooms are pet friendly and dogs can join in the ceremony and reception.

The venue also offers winter weddings, micro weddings, elopements and part-day weddings. For couples wishing to go large, there are two-day and weekend options.
