With the demand for rural retreats rising and more people looking to escape the typical tourist hotspots for some peace and quiet in the UK, holiday provider Cottages in Northumberland reveals the top places to visit nationwide for some rest and relaxation - perfect for staycation minimoons!
Think about what makes an area quiet - no people, no noise, no light pollution and plenty of nature and wildlife. Cottages in Northumberland looked closely at this across England, Scotland and Wales, pulling together data covering population count, national park counts and other remote sites. This data was then ranked to reveal the UK's quietest areas which are all perfect locations to travel to on your next adventure, but which area in the UK did they find to be the best for finding peace and quiet?
After Powys in Wales, which ranked first, and some other contenders including North Yorkshire and Cumbria, Devon came in as the tenth best place in the UK for peace and quiet overall, with its low population count of 178 people per square kilometre. It's one of the few counties in England that boasts two national parks - Dartmoor and Exmoor National Park - and it's also home to an internationally recognised Dark Sky park, Exmoor Dark Sky Reserve, and three dark sky Milky Way sites.
