Hoburne Devon Bay in Paignton has presented the RNLI with a cheque for more than £10,000. The team at Hoburne Devon Bay chose the RNLI as its nominated charity for 2019 and initially pledged to raise £5,000. Throughout last year, employees, holiday homeowners and holidaymakers staying at the Devon-based park all helped to raise thousands with numerous fundraisers and charity initiatives taking place, including the grounds team walking an 18-mile sponsored walk and the park's maintenance manager, Mark Bradley, taking part in a skydive.
Hoburne Holidays also supported the charity through a holiday booking donation scheme. The company donated £1 to the RNLI for every holiday booked during 2019. The RNLI is the largest charity that saves lives at sea around the coasts of the UK, with volunteer lifesavers giving their time for free. Money raised for the charity supports the lifeboat crews, the training required plus maintaining the equipment, lifeboats and shore facilities required. Commenting on the donation, Hoburne Devon Bay park manager, Gary Cook said: "We would like to thank everyone who has supported us and generously donated throughout the year – colleagues, family, friends and our wonderful holiday homeowners and holidaymakers. We are thrilled to have doubled our initial target and raise £10,148 for the RNLI. It's a fantastic charity and we know that this money will really make a difference." Lynn Spillett, chair of Torbay Lifeboat Fundraisers, added: "It has been an absolute pleasure working with the Hoburne Devon Bay team this year. They have been so enthusiastic about their fundraising efforts and raising more than £10,000 is a fantastic achievement, they should be incredibly proud of themselves, as we are! Donations from local businesses are vital in assisting our overall RNLI/Torbay Lifeboat fundraising, and we very much appreciate and welcome their support. All Hoburne Devon Bay donations go towards Saving Lives at Sea. Thank you so much for your incredible efforts Hoburne team!"
