Rachael and Alasdair met on Tinder and enjoyed three dates in the first week. "We knew very early on that we were meant for each other and I'd moved in with him after about six weeks," Rachael tells us. "When you know, you know!" Alasdair proposed on Christmas Day in a surprise proposal. "The ring was in the bottom of my stocking,"Rachael recalls. "He was acting like an excited child the day beforehand, up super early and lighting the wood burning stove and making the place look festive. It was so beautiful and romantic." There was no doubt where we would hold our reception because my parents' smallholding holds special memories for us both so we decided to have two yurts in the grounds to host it.the day.
We didn't have a top table, instead opting to sit with our parents, siblings, nieces and nephews.
Our tables were named after places close to our hearts, for example the name of the village where our first home was, the name of the smallholdingand Harlyn Bay in Cornwall, where we visit on holiday every Easter.
Our place names were Polaroid photographs of each guest with us (or one of us) in the picture. We chose some older, more embarrassing photos where we could! We placed these on top of a menu at each place setting.
We were lucky enough to travel to our reception in a beautiful silver classic car. It was an Alvis model that was a wedding present from my parents.
We collected different gin bottles to display flowers in as our centrepieces on each table, and our favours were packets of British wildflower seeds.
We wanted as many things at our wedding to be locally grown so chose beautiful, bright blooms from the region.
Alasdair wore his Cameron tartan kilt and his groomsmen wore a mix of their own family kilts or Cameron tartan ties teamed with a navy suit if they weren't of Scottish decent.
Our bridesmaids and flowergirl complemented these suits, and our colour theme, by wearing full-length navy dresses. They all looked so elegant.
Our cake was a three-tiered design with each layer being a different flavour. These included coconut and passion fruit, white chocolate and raspberry,and carrot and mango. It was decorated with pastel-coloured meringues.
We served our guests Middle Eastern street food canapes displayed on cable reels outside the yurts followed by a main meal presented in large bowls on each table for everyone to help themselves. The pudding was a Middle Eastern version of Eton mess with cardamom, and all of the produce served came from within 10 miles of the smallholding with the beef in the main dish reared on-site.
We hired a ceilidh band called Dumbo's Feather who we highly recommend. Our guests had so much fun with them.
We had a yurt especially for our wedding night that had lots of personalised touches decorating it.with them.
