September/October 2020

This issue, we’re celebrating the return of weddings, however small, and those of you who have swapped a spring or summer celebration for a postponed intimate gathering this autumn will love our new season ideas. Our barns and farms feature shows how these rustic-inspired structures make a romantic ceremony and reception venue choice for this time of the year – think twinkling canopies of fairylights and dining with your loved ones by candlelight. They also look great styled with wildflowers and foliage - consider a floral chandelier or freshly picked varieties overflowing in giant urns. For more blooming ideas, our flower feature is budding with everything from bouquets and buttonholes to an elevated tablescape and even table trees – one of my favourite looks for autumn from Cornwall-based florist Simon Nickell Design Wedding & Event Flowers.

If like me, you’re a fan of fashion, then you’ll love our new-season buys, from dresses and shoes to accessories, jewellery and more. There’s also bridal beauty, ideas for your hubby-to-be and Insta-worthy honeymoons for when we can freely travel again.

Join us next issue for our Christmas special (yes, you read that correctly, Xmas will be here soon!)

Until then,

Claire x

Harefield Barn

This exclusive-use venue is situated in the heart of the Devon countryside only ten minutes from Exeter. It offers panoramic views and has its own wildflower meadow home to unusual sculptural pieces - all Insta-worthy backdrops for big-day photographs. There are also cider apple orchards close by, adding to the photographic opportunities.

The interior of the barn is wonderfully light and airy, with huge windows designed to capture the stunning views. It has contemporary touches, like the bifold doors allowing guests to spill out on to the terrace where tables and chairs are provided. There’s subtle external lighting and a large firepit for guests to enjoy. The terrace flows seamlessly on to the extensive lawns and adjacent cornfield.

Ceremonies take place in a choice of seven licensed areas for between eight and 300 guests that include the porch, main hall, bar, gallery, the chapel-like space with a vaulted ceiling known as The Tallet, the Leveret Suite that’s decorated like a glamorous boudoir and the Clocktower, a stunning outdoor location with the incredible view as the backdrop.

The choice of where to hold the wedding breakfast and evening reception is up to each couple, with most taking place in the main hall that can seat up to 150 loved ones at round tables for the wedding breakfast, and up to 300 for the evening reception, with an outside space allocated adjacent to the building for mobile catering vans.
