September/October 2020

This issue, we’re celebrating the return of weddings, however small, and those of you who have swapped a spring or summer celebration for a postponed intimate gathering this autumn will love our new season ideas. Our barns and farms feature shows how these rustic-inspired structures make a romantic ceremony and reception venue choice for this time of the year – think twinkling canopies of fairylights and dining with your loved ones by candlelight. They also look great styled with wildflower and foliage, consider a floral chandelier or freshly picked varieties overflowing in giant urns. For more blooming ideas, our flower feature is budding with everything from bouquets and buttonholes to an elevated tablescape and even table trees – one of my favourite looks for autumn from Cornwall-based florist Simon Nickell Design Wedding & Event Flowers.

If like me, you’re a fan of fashion, then you’ll love our new-season buys, from dresses and shoes to accessories, jewellery and more. There’s also bridal beauty, ideas for your hubby-to-be and Insta-worthy honeymoons for when we can freely travel again.

Join us next issue for our Christmas special (yes, you read that correctly, Xmas will be here soon!)

Until then,

Kitley House & Country Estate

This historic manor house situated on a privately owned estate in 600 acres is now a year-round venue for exclusive-use weddings and events and also holidays - why not consider a minimoon here with loved ones?

There are 19 en suite bedrooms in this character property, most with far-reaching views down to the creek, and these include three large suites located on the first floor lovingly named Rodney, Churchill and Winston that overlook the fountain garden. There’s also a room on the ground floor that has been specially adapted for accessibility.

Ceremonies take place in a choice of elegant reception rooms for both intimate gatherings and large, grand affairs. There are two spectacular outdoor settings, one called The Island which is a real hidden gem accessed via a bridge, and a charming summer house perched beside the pretty fountain garden.

Fresh food is prepared by the chef and his team and couples are invited for a tasting session before their big day.

Waxing 101 with Sugar Coated

Beauty therapist, and Sugar Coated sugar wax founder Rosie Khandwala gives her best tips to perfect the at-home wax, including how to deal with ingrown hairs, wax strip technique, and the dreaded bikini wax!Waxing removes hair from the roots. Shaving on the other hand cuts the hair from the surface ofthe skin. The regrowth with waxing is finer and slower as you do it more frequently, whereas shaving can cause hair to grow thicker and stronger and give a stubble feeling as hair regrows.Using a warm wax means the product is sticky and adheres to the hair. The warmth of the product will also open up the pores and loosen the hair resulting in hair being pulled from the root.
