May/June 2022

My much-loved parents are celebrating 50 years of genuinely happy marriage this June which, in this day and age, is a remarkable achievement. Not only have they provided a happy home life for my brother and I to grow up in – and there’s not a day goes by where I’m not grateful for the carefree childhood that we had – they still provide a loving family unit for us now that we’re adults. When I watch how they love, respect and support one another, take care of each other and talk and laugh a lot, I realise that these are the key ingredients to a long and successful marriage. As a family, we’ll be celebrating their Golden Anniversary this summer and I can’t wait.

Another big celebration taking place this June is The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and plenty of our local suppliers will be taking part, including Devon-based drinks company Luscombe who have launched their Street Party Boxes brimming with bunting and other delights. Whatever you’re planning for the extended bank holiday weekend, enjoy this historic milestone.

In this issue, we have real-life couples at the start of their marital journey, who I wish all the very best plus styled shoot and venue dressing inspiration, big-day menu ideas, expert advice, offers and news.

Until the next issue,

Deer's Leap Retreat

This stunning wedding venue is surrounded by 15 acres of farmland, situated on the edge of Exmoor’s national park which provides stunning vistas of rolling fields and moorland from everywhere on the property. The stone barn features a private bar with comfy sofas and chairs, exposed wooden beams offset by cartwheels draped in fairylights, a large wood-burning fire, stone-flagged flooring and large doors opening out on to the sun-drenched, south-facing patio which overlooks the lake and gazebo. The patio area provides a relaxed space for sipping champagne or cocktails and outdoor games can be enjoyed on the large adjacent lawn. As night falls, the heaters and firepits provide warmth outside while the fairylights and festoon lighting lead guests down to the lantern-lit lake for fireworks reflecting in the water fired to the happy couple’s own choice of song.

Ceremonies take place in the wooden lakeside gazebo perched on the side of the lake surrounded by rolling countryside. It accommodates up to 150 guests under a stretch canopy lit with romantic festoon lighting. Alternatively, the rustic barn with original stone walls offers an indoor option with its hand-crafted wooden fixtures and fittings adding to the ambience for up to 150 guests and receptions also take place here.

Women propose new wedding trend

Women propose new wedding trend

Until recently engagement rings were seen as exclusively a female item of jewellery but the team at Ingle & Rhode believe the time has come for both sexes to enjoy a little engagement bling. They have already sold several of the rings to women who were planning to propose to their partners and are confident the trend will continue to gain pace. Ingle & Rhode's mens rings include items fashioned from gold and platinum with many featuring ethically sourced diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and other precious stones. There's something for most budgets with women able to choose from a modest ring for their man from as little as £495 or go for something more blingy up to £11,950.
