My father has inspired my letter this issue. I know that I’m very fortunate to have a wonderful dad with whom I have such a close bond. He has devoted his life to being our father, and my brother and myself wouldn’t be where we are today without his love, encouragement and support right from our childhood years, through our teens into early adulthood and beyond. This included supporting us through both of our weddings and it’s this father-of-the-bride and-groom role (whether he’s your biological dad or stepfather) that’s often the subtle backbone to the day. Some offer financial support, others are there in the background ensuring that everything is running smoothly, calming you down as you prepare to walk down the aisle, and entertaining loved ones with a humorous and heartfelt speech. It’s hard to know how to thank him, which is where my hand-picked selection of the season’s latest buys comes in. Whatever your budget, there will be something to suit him.

Ever After
This stylish outdoor wedding venue is a hidden gem located on the edge of scenic Dartmoor surrounded by manicured lawns and pretty flora-filled gardens. Ceremonies, including humanist ones, take place in the open-sided wedding barn that can be decorated as simply or elaborately as each couple wish, and both this and the reception can hold up to 120 guests. In the event of rain, drinks and canapés can be served under the glass roof on the terrace or in the clear-walled marquee. A special sound system and star-lit dancefloor provide the entertainment.
The two pop-up evening lounges at the venue are ideal for an al fresco, post-dinner tipple. Choose from the Whisky & Cigar lounge – an Art Deco-inspired setting complete with a vintage leather Chesterfield sofa, cocktail cabinet and vintage décor – or the Bubbles & Botanicals lounge. This is furnished with elegant white leather sofas, matching leather cubes, a silver mock crock cocktail cabinet, coffee table, Art Deco lamps and various decorative items including a drink stand serving champagne and hand-crafted gins in old-fashioned glassware.
Each lounge comes with its own white canopy with roll down sides. They’re set up on the lawn at the venue if the weather is dry, otherwise they’ll pop up in the marquee. The lounges can be hired together or separately with a discount for hiring both.
