Spend a safari honeymoon in Zimbabwe

This spring, Africa Albida Tourism (AAT), has launched a new Ethical Arts package for 2019, designed to offer newlyweds an enriched, immersive and locally-inspired safari holiday experience.

Available to those staying at AAT's luxury Victoria Falls Safari Club in Zimbabwe, couples are invited to channel their inner artist and learn a new skill, over a three-day itinerary. Workshops and activities include: a painting trip to a local Elephant Sanctuary; sculpture-making using recycled tin cans sourced from a visit to AAT's recycling plant; a hands-on drumming experience at The Boma - Dinner & Drum Show; an introduction to animal conservation; a tour of the Victoria Falls and a cruise on the Zambezi River. The package includes three days' accommodation at Victoria Falls Safari Club, a selection of tantalising cultural experiences and activities, as well as some much-needed R&R under the hot African sun.

Kick off your trip by visiting one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the Victoria Falls, led by a local tour guide before attending an afternoon arts workshop. In the 45-minute art class you will learn how to create a sculpture made out of tin cans, transforming waste into wonder. The activities won't stop there - you can relax with a spot of afternoon tea before spending time learning about elephants in a close-up encounter! For dinner, guests can enjoy the much-loved Boma – Dinner & Drum Show, an exciting interactive dining experience. Boma visitors can indulge in the finest local cuisine, enhanced by energetic dancing, lively songs, story-telling, face painting, and an incredible drumming show. Bright and early on day two, guests will be taken to the Wild Horizons Elephant Sanctuary, where they will venture down to the nearby watering hole, before setting up their easels and art equipment under the shade of an enormous Mopane tree. A private tutor will be on hand to nurture budding artists through a painting workshop, capturing their elephant muses.

In the evening you can sit back, relax and soak up the last rays as you gently drift along the Zambezi River above the Falls on a river cruise, with a gin and tonic in hand. Look out for elephants, hippos, crocodiles, magnificent birds and other wildlife. The finale of the cruise is the unforgettable sight of the sun setting over the Zambezi River, turning the sky into a myriad of reds, oranges and pinks. Dinner will be at the award-winning MaKuwa-Kuwa restaurant overlooking a waterhole and the African bush.

On your last full day on the Ethical Arts package you will visit the hotel's recycling project. This project was launched in March 2018 in partnership with local environmental conservationist Charlene Hewat, to help protect one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, and clean-up the local town. Your help can make all the difference with this important initiative, whilst allowing you to immerse yourself in the community.

In the afternoon take part in the Vulture Culture Experience, a supplementary feeding programme for the endangered vulture population. The activity begins with a briefing on a deck beneath Victoria Falls Safari Lodge (located adjacent to Victoria Falls Safari Club), about the ecological importance of vultures, and the plight they are facing, before guests take a short walk down a bush path to a hideout to view hundreds of vultures flocking for the feeding. The travel package will come to an end with a delicious meal at Victoria Falls Safari Club, where you will again be treated to breath-taking views.

Prices at Victoria Falls Safari Club on the Ethical Arts package start from $1,400/ £1,062* per person sharing per night in High Season 2019. Prices include an art workshop, guided tour of the falls, vulture culture experience, elephant art safari, river cruise, recycling plant visit, breakfast daily and three dinners.
